CVSS v3.1 |
A flaw was found in gnutls. This vulnerability occurs because permitted name constraints were incorrectly ignored when previous Certificate Authorities (CAs) only had excluded name constraints. A remote attacker could exploit this to bypass critical name constraint checks during certificate validation. This bypass could lead to the acceptance of invalid certificates, potentially enabling spoofing or man-in-the-middle attacks against affected systems.
This vulnerability exists in the iRA 2.0 and iRA.ev mobile applications due to improper implementation of SSL certificate pinning in the network security configuration, resulting in ineffective certificate pinning controls. An attacker positioned to intercept network traffic could exploit this vulnerability to intercept or modify communications between the application and its backend services.
ModSecurity is an open source, cross platform web application firewall (WAF) engine for Apache, IIS and Nginx. Prior to 2.9.15 and 3.0.17, the HttpsClient::download function in src/utils/https_client.cc sets libcurl CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYHOST to 1 instead of the strict value 2L. Under adversary-in-the-middle and TLS interception conditions, this non-strict setting may weaken TLS peer identity validation and increase the risk of accepting a certificate for an unintended host. End-to-end exploitation is non-trivial in typical environments. This issue is fixed in versions 2.9.15 and 3.0.17.
OpenAlgo 1.0.0.29 before 2.0.3.1 contains an improper certificate validation vulnerability in utils/email_utils.py and utils/email_debug.py that disables TLS hostname and certificate checks for STARTTLS and SMTPS. Network-positioned attackers can present a forged certificate to intercept SMTP credentials and all later mail, including password-reset links.
Kyverno before 1.19.2 contains an authentication bypass in matchCertificateData that skips verifyImages subject and subjectRegExp checks when the signing certificate has no Subject Alternative Name. Attackers holding a leaf certificate from a configured private trust root can omit the SAN, set the expected Fulcio issuer OID, and sign malicious images that are admitted despite signer pinning.
A flaw was found in libnbd. The client did not always correctly verify the NBD server's certificate when using TLS to connect to an NBD server. This issue allows a man-in-the-middle attack on NBD traffic.
A heap-buffer-overread vulnerability was found in GnuTLS in how it handles the Certificate Transparency (CT) Signed Certificate Timestamp (SCT) extension during X.509 certificate parsing. This flaw allows a malicious user to create a certificate containing a malformed SCT extension (OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.11129.2.4.2) that contains sensitive data. This issue leads to the exposure of confidential information when GnuTLS verifies certificates from certain websites when the certificate (SCT) is not checked correctly.
| The system certificate authority (CA) store in Red Hat products, distributed via ca-certificates RPM packages, included multiple root CA certificates of authorities, which signed intermediate CA certificates with weak private keys issued by the eMudhra certificate authority. A man-in-the-middle attacker could use this flaw to issue certificates for arbitrary host names signed by the weak intermediate CA certificates, which would be considered trusted by a TLS/SSL client using system CA store and cause such clients to connect to malicious sites.
Due to inability to only distrust specific intermediate certificates in all clients using the system CA store, root CA certificates of authorities that signed weak intermediate CA certificates are being removed. |
IBM Db2 Genius Hub 1.1.2, 1.1.3, 1.1.4, 1.1.5 improperly validates TLS certificate validation, which could allow an attacker to obtain sensitive information using man in the middle technique.
An Improper Certificate Validation vulnerability in WatchGuard AuthPoint Gateway allows an attacker with an on-path network position to intercept and modify communications between the AuthPoint Gateway and local authentication providers.
An improper certificate validation vulnerability exists in Moxa Remote Connect Suite (MRC Client). Under certain conditions, an unauthenticated attacker with on-path access to the communication between the MRC Client and its server could impersonate a trusted server and conduct a man-in-the-middle attack, potentially compromising the confidentiality and integrity of communications.
Forge (also called node-forge) is a native implementation of Transport Layer Security in JavaScript. Prior to 1.4.1, the affected implementation used certificate.verify(child), _verifySignature(), lib/x509.js to process the relevant input or security decision. node-forge selected RSA padding and RSASSA-PSS parameters from the issuer certificate rather than the child certificate being verified. A child labeled as RSASSA-PSS could therefore be accepted with a PKCS#1 v1.5 signature when the issuer used PKCS#1 v1.5. The signature still had to be produced with the trusted issuer's private key, so this did not permit certificate identity forgery, but it could bypass policies that require a declared signature scheme. This issue is fixed in version 1.4.1.
GnuTLS v3.8.13 does not reject a critical keyUsage extension when it cannot be processed, such as when extnValue is an ASN.1 NULL (05 00) instead of a BIT STRING. NOTE: the Supplier does not consider this an actionable security vulnerability because of its "threat model doesn't consider attacks only possible by modifying anything within the trust boundary (private keys, trusted certificate authorities and their issued certificates including intermediate CAs, etc.)" policy.
** REJECT ** DO NOT USE THIS CANDIDATE NUMBER. ConsultIDs: none. Reason: This candidate was withdrawn by its CNA. Further investigation showed that it was not a security issue. Notes: none.
GnuTLS v3.8.13 does not properly enforce name constraints, as demonstrated by a permitted subtree violation for "EE O=Evil accepted although outside permitted O=Good." NOTE: the Supplier does not consider this an actionable security vulnerability because of its "threat model doesn't consider attacks only possible by modifying anything within the trust boundary (private keys, trusted certificate authorities and their issued certificates including intermediate CAs, etc.)" policy.
In GnuTLS v3.8.13, an excluded msUPN/SRV otherName is never checked. NOTE: the Supplier does not consider this an actionable security vulnerability because of its "threat model doesn't consider attacks only possible by modifying anything within the trust boundary (private keys, trusted certificate authorities and their issued certificates including intermediate CAs, etc.)" policy.
GnuTLS v3.8.13 can perhaps unexpectedly trust a certificate on the basis of Common Name when Subject Alternative Name has an SRV otherName (1.3.6.1.5.5.7.8.7) whose value is an OCTET STRING. NOTE: the Supplier does not consider this an actionable security vulnerability because of its "threat model doesn't consider attacks only possible by modifying anything within the trust boundary (private keys, trusted certificate authorities and their issued certificates including intermediate CAs, etc.)" policy.
GnuTLS v3.8.13 does not reject end-entity X.509 certificates that contain a contradictory combination of Key Usage (KU) and Extended Key Usage (EKU). NOTE: the Supplier does not consider this an actionable security vulnerability because of its "threat model doesn't consider attacks only possible by modifying anything within the trust boundary (private keys, trusted certificate authorities and their issued certificates including intermediate CAs, etc.)" policy.
Forge (also called node-forge) is a native implementation of Transport Layer Security in JavaScript. Prior to 1.4.1, the affected implementation used pki.verifyCertificateChain(), pki.createCaStore(), duplicate subject names to process the relevant input or security decision. node-forge modified the CA store while trying certificates that shared a subject name during pki.verifyCertificateChain(). A failed chain verification could permanently remove trusted CA certificates from the store, causing later valid chains to fail and creating a persistent availability impact for applications that reused the store. This issue is fixed in version 1.4.1.
Tanium addressed an improper certificate validation vulnerability in multiple products. Products have been updated to distrust several intermediate CA certificates associated with compromised private keys.
